Stuff You Ask
These are questions that I’ve been getting via email, from people I talk with in person or from clients in my teleseminars. This page will be updated as I receive a question more than once.
You’ve got such great content…how do you make money?
I appreciate the compliment and the question! I make money when people attend my teleseminars, hire me for one-on-one consulting, join a mentoring program (a new program will start in March) and hire me for speaking engagements. In addition, sometimes I get asked to work on special projects with colleagues that are revenue generators for me.
There’s so much news about how social media is a failure and not worth the time. Why should I pay you to learn about something that doesn’t work?
I’ve read those reports too. Did you notice from where the reports are gathering their information? Typically, the news is from a corporation that has spent thousands of dollars on marketing campaigns or advertisements on social media platforms. In other cases, it’s generated from people that continually try to PYS (Pimp Yo Stuff) on people everytime they log onto the web. That just doesn’t work. It’s not called “Corporate Swap”, it’s called “Social Media”…emphasis on “social”. I’ll teach you how to develop a strategy that builds relationships online and drives people to your website because they can’t help themselves!
I heard your story about how you use your own social media strategies and “after 3 weeks in business, I had subscribers in 10 states and two countries!” So what? Just because you have a list doesn’t mean you have clients. Do any of those people buy from you?
Ah, you caught me! Seriously, though, that’s a GREAT question. In fact, because of my focus on connecting to my “laser-focused” target market and understanding the psychology of working within social media, over 40% of my list of subscribers has purchased from me at least once and 20% of those have purchased from me again. I also have only 1% drop out rate in my list. Not too shabby (if I do say so myself).

Deidre- Are you interesting in speaking at our 90th Anniversary North Carolina State Conference for BPW? Laura Poole recommended you. I have an opening on Friday, June 26 and 27th. This conference is being held at RTP Radison. We expect to have between 100-300 Women from across the state. Check out our website at http://www.ncbpw.org and click on 2009 State Conference. I see that you have some stuff to sell as well. We will have a shopper’s lane too. I look forward to a reply. Thanks Jo
Yes! I will send you an email!
Hello.. I want to subscribe to your blog but I cannot find your rss link, please help. Thanks. – Jen
Hi – really great website you have created. I enjoyed reading this posting. I did want to publish a comment to tell you that the design of this site is very aesthetically sweet. I used to be a graphic designer, now I am a copy editor for a marketing firm. I have always enjoyed functioning with computers and am trying to learn code in my free time (which there is never enough of lol).
Thanks! Lisa Chase is my graphic designer and I think she ROCKS! But I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to say something. Hope you learn the code that you want.
Hi Jen – here’s the RSS link – http://thebuzzbuilder.com/feed/
Random question: I am just starting my blog, but how did you start gaining readership? was it just natural? I mean how did people start finding you?
Gerda, I always tell people that I have a blog at every speaking engagement. I also have it listed on my email, Twitter page, Facebook page, etc. It’s also been submitted it to several online directories. Hope that helps!
I hope you would not have reservations if I placed a part of this site on my univeristy blog?
I know this is really boring and you are skipping to the next comment, but I just wanted to give you a big thank you – you cleared up some things for me!
Go for it, Carmen.
