Speakers: Why You Need More Video
09.20.09
Many times when I tell speakers that they need video, they tell me they already have video of themselves speaking. Great!
HOWEVER…that’s only a piece of the video puzzle.
Video is powerful. There are many, many reasons why, but I’m going to share two major reasons here with you today.
1. Fast Food Mentality
We live in a fast-food society with fast-food ideas. We want what we want and we want it now! One of the best ways to deliver your message outside of meeting someone face-to-face is to deliver it with video. It’s the next best thing to being with you and allows you to get your message across to your audience quickly.
A lot of this “fast food mentality” comes from the advances that have been made in technology. Think about it. You used to have to read the Encyclopedia Britannica to get in depth information about anything. Now, you can turn on your computer and Google anything!
And Voila! Instant gratification.
2. Communication Breakdown
There are three ways that you communicate with another person.
Your body language
The tone of your voice
The words you choose
Most of you agonize over the words that you choose. In fact, your very livelihood depends on the words that you choose!
If you believe that, you would be wrong.
Studies have been done to help understand which of the 3 is more useful and powerful in communicating in order to help us to understand how to get our message out.
Here’s the breakdown:
Body Language: 58%
Tone of Voice: 35%
Words: 7%
If you are relying on text to get your message out online, you are missing a POWERFUL part of your message. Don’t rely on 7% – use all 100% and be a force to be reckoned with online!
Are using video? If so, how has it helped you?
