Quick Tip #5 – Categories and Tags
It’s time for this week’s BUZZ Bit and a Bagel! Today, unfortunately, there’s no bagel, because my family ate all of them – what do you do?
But, I do have a quick tip for you and it has to do with blogging.
We blog to make sure that we’re reaching out to prospects, connecting with our current client base, and also increasing our page rankings with Google, because Google loves current content! But here’s a tip for you: make sure that you’re categorizing your blog posts. Most blogging platforms will allow you to categorize your blog posts…make sure you’re doing that! Categories are a high level of what your blog posts are about and what’s important. Google sees categories as more important than other information it’s going to find within your blog post, so make sure your categories make sense.
And then, tags.
Think of tags as just another word for keywords. So, make sure you’re tagging your blog posts. If your platform allows you to put tags in, put them in! Now, do NOT tag a word that is not inside your blog post. It is so infuriating for a person that’s searching for information! If I put a word into Google and it leads me to your blog post, if I can’t find my word when I get to your blog post, I’m going to get irritated! Okay? So, don’t irritate people. Make sure your tag is a word that’s actually found inside your blog post.
