Hey Deidre!

These are great tips. #1 is HUGE and overlooked! It is very important to keep up with what is being said. You can also set up a Google alert for your name and feed it into your Google reader (like a blog). I do this for Todd's name and have connected with a ton of bloggers that talk (positively thankfully) about him and also link to the videos.

Janice,

Thanks for the comment! They certainly can be addicting because by nature, we're social beings. Nothing wrong with being social as long as we're getting our other work done too. It's nice that we can integrate being social into a marketing plan!

Have a great week!

Hi Heather!

First, thank you for coming by!

Yes, I highly recommend a Facebook page for a business. Facebook is adding more and more functionality into pages for business on a pretty consistent basis, which includes the ability to send out an email to people that are "fans" of your business page. Keep in mind, a business page is attached to your Facebook profile. I'll write a blog post about this topic very soon and let you know when it's available.

Thanks again!

All great points/suggestions, but #6 is my favorite. Many of the social media sites can become so addicting that nothing else gets during the course of a day:-) I know because I have taken to setting a timer to ensure that I spend adequate but not too much time on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Thanks for the post Deidre!

I am a "baby blogger" with a "baby" (ie new) business.

I have seen some people create a separate Facebook page for their business. Would you recommend that? I guess the benefit is that people can become fans and then get updates?

I'm new to it all. - Heather

Bev,

Thank you so much for coming by and commenting! And yes, blogging is extremely important for book sales. In fact, it's important to start that blog and build your audience before the book comes out. Thanks again!

These are excellent tips! My organization (Boomer Diva Nation) just implemented #5 as a promotional strategy and it really works. I do, however, need to work on #6.

As an author I definitely believe #5, 7, & 8 are pivotal to your book sales.
