Deidre’s Thoughts for Thursday
Have you ever started a couple projects with the same due date, thinking to yourself, “I can do this. No problem.” And then as the due date looms before you, you realize…”I’ve got a problem!”
I have! Mmmm, that would be today!
If you’ll look at the date, this is not Thursday…it’s actually Monday. This post is 4 days later than it’s supposed to be.
Why?
Well, O (Olalah Njenga) and I have been planning a huge launch for a new program called The Outrageous Advantage™ and decided that the launch date would be June 1 (that’s today). But in my never ending brilliance (LOL), I decided that it would also be a great day to release the new version of my website.
I told myself, “I can do this! I’ve got plenty of time!”
And what is it that they say about the “best laid plans”? Yeah, that happened (internet interruptions, family crisis, software malfunctions, you name it, etc…). And as a result, after a solid weekend in front of my computer, I was still up at 4:30AM this morning putting the finishing touches on the new website and launch.
But, I learned quite a few things along the way and now that the day is hear (YEAH!), I can actually reflect on those…
- Things always take about 10 times longer than you expect if you have friends and family. (And you know, that’s not such a bad thing.)
- Being pushed to the 11th hour (or 4 am in my case) can let you know a lot about who your biggest supporters are. For me it starts at home with an amazing family! My husband took care of the kids all weekend with very little support from me at all. (My kids came over and hugged me at the most appropriate times. Thanks guys!!)
- It’s important to have great friends. It’s humbling if they’re talented and want to help! Special thanks go out to two amazing professionals and friends: Lisa (Lisa Chase) and O (Olalah Njenga). Lisa provided last minute changes to graphics and provided some design feedback desperately needed on Sunday. O was the eternal optimist, marketing genius and my brain when it had failed (sometime around 3pm Sunday afternoon). All I can say is…Wow, thank you, thank you, Wow.
- I have amazing supporters, clients and friends that kept a watchful eye out for what I was doing and provided feedback along the way.
- I have amazing friends on Twitter! Thank you to everyone that sent out Tweets this morning: Chris Morrissette (@forfreeforfun); Olalah Njenga (@olalah); Tim Moore (@dancingelephant); Becky Carlson (@bluemoonistic); Michelle Courtney (@triangleb2b); Kathy Sales (@kathysales); Stefanie Zizzo (@stefaniezizzo); Janice Russell (@mym_organizing) and Karyn Greenstreet (@kgreenstreet)!
- Ditto on Facebook! Thank you to Lorana Price, Becky Carlson, Brenda Peterson, Bob Liddle, Stephanie Zizzo and Karen Machamer!
Honestly, some of those friends are the result of social media…thank you to those of you that understand that it’s about relationships and getting to know each other. For that, i am also grateful.
I hope you take a moment out of your day and decide what it is that you’re grateful for…no matter how overwhelmed you are! Then you can pick back up your working hat and build a BUZZ about your business!
