Hosting a Blog Tour – Part 1 #authorhelp

worldtour2 Tip Tuesday

So, you’ve written a book and someone has told you that you should do a blog tour. You think to yourself, “What’s that?”

Simply, very similar to a physical book tour (without the travel and expense), you will visit different blogs and offer information about your book and answer questions.

Today, I’m going to give you two tips to get the plans started for your Blog Tour!

The following tips are based on the assumption that you are already blogging about your book. This assumption is in place because a blog tour assumes that in exchange for your book being reviewed on numerous blog sites across the country (and potentially, the world), that you will blog about your tour and help to direct traffic to the blogs that you are touring. This can be done in one simple blog post, but should have a link to each blog as well as the focus of your visit!

Tip #1:
Target the right blogs for your blog tour. If you’ve written a book about parenting, you wouldn’t target a blogger that focuses on tech products! Think about the keywords that would be appropriate for your market. After collecting a list of these keywords, use Google to search for blogs. Simply type in the keyword and the word “blog”. A plethora of blogs will be at your fingertips!

BONUS tip: once you have narrowed your search to the blogs that you believe would be appropriate for your blog tour, use a news aggregator to keep track of the blogs. In all likelihood, you are going to visit the blog sites several more times, both prior to and after your appearance on any particular blog.

Tip #2:
Decide on a blog tour angle or theme. You could have an:

  • “Ask the Author” tour, where each blogger can ask you up to 3 questions about the content of your book.
  • “Tip Tour”, where you provide a different tip to each blogger taken from the content of your book.
  • “Podcast Tour”, where you will work with bloggers that offer podcasts on their blog.
  • “Success Tour”, where you provide stories of people that have had success utilizing the principles found in your book.
  • “Behind the Scenes Tour”, this is similar to the “Tip Tour” simply with a different set up and feel.
  • “Excerpt Tour”, where each blog receives a different excerpt from your book

While there is a lot of preparation for a Blog Book Tour, in the end, you could get great exposure, increase your Google rankings and sell more books! Come back next week for more tips about putting your blog tour together AND, building a BUZZ about your book!!
