I will be interviewing Paul this week on my show, Author BUZZ. If you own a business or are thinking about, this is an interview that you do not want to miss!
Paul is going to share information from his book called Running Your Own Company: An Entrepreneur’s Field Guide. This book is a veritable gold mine of information that you might otherwise only find out through trial and error.
So why should you listen to what Paul has to say?
Paul is the founder and owner of Inner Circle of Baltimore (a company that organizes groups of non-competing business owners who meet monthly to share concerns and issues about growing their businesses) since 1988. Paul brings more than 45 years of management experience to the table.
At Equitable Bank, he was Senior Vice President of Marketing after serving as Senior Vice President of Operations:
- Helped design the Response Banking System
- Responsible for development and marketing of more than 35 financial products
- Organized and managed three start-up bank subsidiaries in insurance and data processing.
- Manager of Equitable Bank’s strategic planning program
Paul is a graduate of Washington College and holds a B.A. in Political Science and History. He is also a graduate of the Bankers School at the University of Virginia and of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University.
During his spare time Paul has served as a panelist on “Money Matters” a consumer financial information show that ran on cable TV for over eight years. In addition, he has had a number of articles published by The Baltimore Business Journal and writes a regular column in Baltimore SmartCEO and Washington SmartCEO Magazines.
Paul was an active member of the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce, chairing the Executive Dialogue program for 5 years, and was named “Volunteer of the Year” in 1993.
Other community service has included:
- Work with the United Way of Central Maryland
- Chairing the Consumer Council of Maryland
- Serving on the board of Junior Achievement
- Auction committee of The Bryn Mawr School
- Served on the Advisory Board of The Merrick School of Business at The University of Baltimore
- Facilitated a number meetings between member nations of the Southern Africa Development Community that led to their economic union treaty and the adoption of additional projects (1995 & 1997)
Paul’s past experience as well as his continued mentoring of business leaders has him supremely qualified to write his book in which he answers questions like:
“I see a lot of business books and articles that provide “conventional wisdom” about how to run a business. What are some of these ‘pearls’ that don’t stand up to close examination?” - Chapter Two: Some Popular Business Myths Exploded
“I have worked in a couple of jobs and have done okay. But I always thought I should own my own business. So, I am about to take the plunge. Are there things I should learn from others who have gone out on their own?” – Chapter Eight: Words to Grow Your Business By
“I have been in business with several business partners for about ten years. We have done well, but lately we seem to disagree more and more about what to do as we grow. What should we do?” – Chapter Sixteen: Keeping Partnerships in Tune
Just so you know, Paul isn’t all business…he has a life too – Paul has a grown daughter and his hobbies include playing the piano, golf, watching as much baseball and football as possible and walking.
This is going to be a very interesting interview – you won’t want to miss it!
