Let’s get on with Maria’s LinkedIn profile makeover!

1. Rather than using the predetermined names that LinkedIn offers (”My Company”, “My Website”, etc.), use the customized option to type in the name of the websites (e.g. “Write to the Point”, “Blog: Maria Talks Back”). This will make it more appealing to someone to click on the link. Another benefit to using this customization feature is search engine optimization.

2. Great job customizing the your profile link to LinkedIn!

2a. Your summary is very succinct and expresses your expertise VERY well. The only thing I would add is an overall summary of who you are (you’re more than what you do). Add at least a sentence to summarize who you are as well.

2b. Fantastic and comprehensive account of your specialties!

3. Great explanations of your job history. The only thing I might add is the let people know (especially in your current position) what your target market is. Allow people to qualify themselves and potentially draw people to you!

4. One of the greatest benefits that LinkedIn has to offer is the ability to collect recommendations for your positions. You have done a great job! This allows people to have a better understanding of what it would be like to work with you. A very nice aspect of your recommendations is that they seem to be occurring on a pretty regular basis. Kudos!

5. It’s great that your interests are in alignment with what it is that you do for a living! I appreciate that you have networking, reading memoirs and gardening as well. But, this is a great opportunity to allow some of your personality to shine though and help me to relate with you as I would at a networking event! Rather than having a bulleted list, write sentences about your interests. What types of things do you enjoy writing the most? What types of memoirs? Are you a gardener of vegetables, flowers or both?

What a pleasure to read your profile! Your expertise is evident in this very powerful LinkedIn profile. My greatest recommendation is to add a couple of items to allow us to see the person behind the expertise.
