2 Tip Tuesday

You log into Facebook and by the time you look up at the clock, you’ve lost an hour and it seems that you’ve accomplished nothing. Frustrated, you log off, shake your head and think to yourself, “This is stupid! I’m not doing this anymore!”

Has that happened to you?

Has it happened to someone you know?

There’s a solution….

Here’s two tips to help you stay focused and keep your social media activities moving!

1. Have a plan
It sounds simple, but a lot of people don’t do this. Just have a plan. Know what you’re going to do before you get there. If you’re going into LinkedIn, you might have a plan to update your status, connect with someone you know and answer a question in your industry in the Q&A section. If you’re going into Facebook, you might have a plan to update your status, scan your wall and make 3 comments on your friends’ updates, and check your inbox. When you’re done, you’re done! Move along!

2. Set a time limit
If social media has a way of monopolizing your time (even with a plan in place), take control back by setting a time limit. If you have trouble regulating yourself, get an egg-timer! Determine how long you need to get your plan accomplished and set the time. Once the timer goes off, sign off of your social media activities.

Don’t be surprised if after implementing these 2 little tips if you end up spending more time in social media.

Listen. If you put a plan in place and get focused, you’re probably going to find that you have more success. If you start having more success, you’re going to adjust your plan to spend more time there. It only makes sense.

Spending time without a plan, doesn’t.
