Social Media and Your Profile Picture

Monday Madness – Q & A
Last week, I was approached by 3 different people with the same question…
“When I’m setting up my profile in social media,
should I put a picture of myself or should I use my logo?”
Definitely a picture of you! We want to see your face! But, to try to explain this a little better, I decided to make a video:
Using Your Logo
By using your logo as your picture, you’re telling me that it’s all about your business. You’re not interested in connecting with me, it’s all about you. I may even be thinking that all you’re going to do is try to sell to me. Stop! I realize that your purpose for being online may simply be to increase your sales, but I don’t know you, like you or trust you yet. I don’t care about your business. It’s called “social media”, not the “corporate swap”! In the end, by using your corporate logo, you not only may turn off your biggest potential client, you’re also missing the boat.
Using the Default or a Generic Avatar
By using a default or generic avatar, you’re telling me you’re not really interested in connecting. You’re telling me that you’re scared of being visible. If you’re online to build visibility for your company, isn’t that counterintuitive? What are you scared of? Remember, you can always choose not to connect with someone. In addition, if you connect with someone and realize it was a mistake, you can always disconnect with that person…with the click of a button. Stop being scared and take control of your presence online!
Using Your Picture
By using your picture, you’re allowing me to put a face to the name. You’re telling me that you want to connect with me…that you’re “social”. Awesome! Because that’s why most people are involved in “social media” – to be social, to connect. Having your picture available to me allows me to begin that process. The more you’re able to connect and build relationships with people, the richer your life will become. The bonus is that you’re developing inbound marketing – you just might sell more too…
Show your face and build a BUZZ about your business!
Please leave comments to let me know your thoughts about this post.
Thanks!
