2 Tip Tuesday

I was at a networking event last week and someone asked about marketing their business online. I didn’t say anything because I wanted to see the direction that the conversation would go. I was genuinely surprised…a lot of talk ensued about the rising cost of advertising and whether it was worth the investment.

Not one person brought up the effectiveness of social media. Not one. When I brought it up, I was confronted with a barrage of comments that ranged from uncertainty to complete and utter frustration verging on hopelessness.

If you do the right things in social media and build your credibility, you will be successful and it doesn’t have to be hard.

So, your question may be, “Well, great, so how can you make building credibility simple?”

1. Be honest.
I know. It sounds crazy. But, that’s what you need to do. Pick a platform and develop a profile that’s honest and sincere about who you are. If you’re a nut, then write about what a nut you are. If you’re super serious, then be super serious. You don’t want to cram your information down people’s throats, you want to draw people to you because of who you are. So, be who you are.

2. Build relationships.
Again. Simple…unless you don’t remember how. Sure, you know how! Talk with the people that you meet online. Comment on their status updates, comment on their pictures, find out what similarities you have and how you’re different. Before you know it, you’ll have built a relationship in social media. Now, this person (not connection #?), but this PERSON that you care about now cares about you too. You might even both be inclined to check out each other’s businesses now.

Don’t we all want to do business with people we know, like and trust?

Improve your internet marketing with social media networking (ooh, sounds like inbound marketing – nice) and you will reap the rewards of your efforts…simply!
