2 Tips for Building Your Credibility in LinkedIn

2 Tip Tuesday

I’ve had a few people asking me questions about LinkedIn lately, so thought I would share a couple of tips about building your credibility on that platform.

1. Question and Answer Section:
If you want to increase your credibility quickly, spend some time in the question and answer section of LinkedIn.  The Q&A Section is divided into categories.  Look at the categories and find a category that speaks to your area of expertise.  Find a question that you feel comfortable answering and answer it!  Not only are you helping the person that asked the question, you are building both visibility and credibility with every other person that reads the answers to that question.  Very cool.  Your goal is to have the best answer to the question that causes the writer of the question to vote your answer as the best answer.  If your answer is voted as the best, this is added to your profile and builds your credibility.  Awesome!

2. Write a Recommendation:
Look through your list of connections.  Is there someone in your list with whom you’ve had a great experience?  Spend a few moments developing a genuine recommendation about this person and send it to them.  How does this help your credibility?  Because chances are, someone else has had a great experience with that person as well and now your recommendation with your name and a link back to your page is attached to them.  While this is a great bonus, in addition, your recommendation can inspire someone else to write a recommmendation about you!  It could be the person that you just wrote the recommendation about, or it could be someone that saw your recommendation and is now thinking about you.  Building your recommendations will build your credibility.

Do you have any other thoughts about how you can build credibility in LinkedIn?

One thing I’ve found very helpful is asking and answering questions within groups.

Groups are very different in the kinds of questions that are asked. Some are all about jobs. Others seem to have advertisements in the form of questions. Others have genuine information sharing and some have almost no questions.

Asking and answering questions always brings notice to anyone looking and establishes you as a participator. That’s a form of credibility. I’ve found that the people answering questions tend to be “live wires” and willing to interact.

Here’s a question back: Did you define credibility somewhere? And can you explore the idea of visibility and it’s connecting with credibility?
