As more and more people are getting involved online, avatars are becoming more popular.  Now, I’m not talking about the generic avatars with pictures of sports teams and hobbies. I’m talking about the avatars that look like real people.

Okay, they don’t look “exactly” like real people.

But with the right program, you can capture the essence of who you are and create an image of you. These can be fun additions to your blog, marketing materials, etc…as long as they maintain the integrity of your service/product.

Here are 4 sites that I found that I thought did a pretty good job of allowing me to put my own personality into the avatars. Each one is VERY different, but give you an idea of what you might be able to create.

This one only does a head shot, but has some great accessories and colorization features to help capture you!

Here’s another headshot, but a different look and feel.  While it doesn’t give the option to have sunglasses on top of your head (that’s where mine area ALL the time), it does allow you to have one or both hands in the shot.

Quite honestly, this is one of my favorites…a full body avatar with so many accessories and background to choose from, this could take you hours.  But look at the cool hammer – The BUZZ Builder…get it?  LOVE IT!

This one is quite “cartoonish”, but it’s still fun and has enough cheesy poses that you can get a kick out of your time on the site.
